Summary:
Adaptation to climate change is increasingly seen as a process of social learning among stakeholders. To support this process, natural scientists, social scientists and economists have to collaborate: together they can develop the multi-faceted knowledge base essential for adaptation, and together they can identify the key information requirements of stakeholders.

A central line of research in Mistra-SWECIA is on social learning, and how it serves to build adaptive capacity. Mistra-SWECIA engages with stakeholders with the aims of both analysing and supporting the process of social learning for adaptation. In my presentation I will discuss why social learning matters to adaptation to climate change, which factors contribute to social learning, and how we analyse it in a number of case studies in Mistra-SWECIA, building on the interdisciplinary expertise represented in the programme.
