Mistra-SWECIA researcher Lars Bärring was present at the IPCC meeting in Uganda last week, where the Summary for Policymakers of the SREX report (Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation) was approved. As stated by Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the IPCC, the summary provides insights into how disaster risk management and adaptation may assist vulnerable communities to better cope with a changing climate.
Lars Bärring participated as a member of the Swedish delegation at the meeting. Richard Klein, also a Mistra-SWECIA researcher, and a lead author of the SREX report, was also present at the meeting.
The full SREX report will be released in February 2012.
Mistra-SWECIA will also in its coming second programme phase continue its work with extreme weather events.

Mistra-SWECIA was one of the organizers behind the conference "Klimatanpassning Sverige 2011" 21 September in Stockholm. The aim of the conference “Klimatanpassning Sverige 2011" was to give an overview of, and knowledge for, climate change adaptation in Sweden. There were 120 participants gathered listening to presentations and visiting the stand area. Oskar Wallgren, case study coordinator, held a presentation on “Climate change adaptation on local scale" and Mistra-SWECIA was represented with a stand including a poster, papers and reports.
The Board of Mistra has granted up to 48 MSEK for a new programme phase of the Mistra-SWECIA research programme, starting on 1 January, 2012.During this second programme phase, Mistra-SWECIA will continue and expand the research work and stakeholder contacs from the first phase. The research questions will be focused on climate change adaptation in land use related sectors, with the forests and the forestry sector as the starting point. Stakeholder contacts will be an integrated aspect of the Mistra-SWECIA:s effort.
The second programme phase will run in 2012-2015.
A summary (as well as other documentation) from the Mistra-SWECIA Science seminar #4 2010 is now available. The seminar was held last year, but even though the summary is just from the press, the discussion and findings are quite timely even now.
Documentation (presentations, a video recording, and a written account) from the Mistra-SWECIA Science seminar #1 2011 is now available.
Documentation (presentations, a video recording, and a written account) from the Mistra-SWECIA Science seminar #3 2011 — “The Challenge of Governing Climate Change Adaptation" — is now available at the web page.
The Mistra-SWECIA Annual report for 2010 is now available both in Swedish and in English.
