Jonas Olsson obtained his Ph.D. in civil engineering (statistical hydrology) at Lund University in 1996. The topic was analysis and modeling of rainfall using high-resolution observations and scale-invariant concepts, i.e. random cascades. In 1997-2000, Jonas Olsson had a Post-Doc position at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. Besides statistical rainfall modeling, he there worked with e.g. rainfall downscaling from regional atmospheric model output as well as characterisation of subsurface water and solute transport. Since 2001, he works as researcher and project leader at the Research Division of the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). Besides the above topics, his work comprises of, e.g., development and evaluation of rainfall-runoff models and forecasts, often with focus on uncertainty, and assessment of climate change impact on hydrological processes. Jonas Olsson has had a range of scientific commitments including EU-project work package leader, committee member and conference convener. He has published some 35 scientific papers in reviewed journals as well as numerous reports, conference abstracts, etc. He often acts as
reviewer of both scientific papers and research applications.
