Different Energy Sources, Technological Development and Climate Change Policy

Johan Gars considers the role of technical change and related policy measures. These are related, but in non-trivial ways, which is a hinder for insight. Which technology we have in the future affects the climate-forcing emissions and thus the need of adaptation. Promotion of mitigation measures, for example by increasing the use of alternative energy sources, can as such also lead to some need of adaptation. The scientific challenge of modelling the complex of energy, technology, policy and this, adaptation needs, has a very concrete bearing to the decisions facing us.

Mistra-SWECIA Science seminar: The effects of different energy sources and technological progress on climate change
Fossil energy and technological progress are two important factors that potentially influence climate change. Today, the main source of energy is fossil energy, and its use generates CO2-emissions with global warming as result. Technological progress can however improve the energy efficiency and potentially lead to the implementation of alternative clean energy sources that may partially or fully...
