Future Hotspots in European Climate-Vegetation Feedbacks
Anna Wramneby, Ben Smith and Patrick Samuelsson discuss studies on “The role of vegetation-climate feedbacks in regional earth system dynamics", a subject of Anna´s recently defended doctoral thesis. One of the conclusions is that there are contrasting feedback mechanisms between climate change and vegetation withinEurope , the region encompassed in the study. In the Scandinavian mountains, feedbacks related to surface albedo amplify the warming in winter and spring. Over continental Europe, feedbacks related to summertime evapotranspiration both dampen and amplify the warming. Furthermore, climate-vegetation feedbacks also affect the variability of temperature, either dampening or enhancing temperature variability, depending on the region and the season. The article (pdf, 340 kB)
