Introduction to the Mistra-SWECIA Newsletter No 1:10
Welcome to the first issue of the Mistra-SWECIA Newsletter 2010! This issue of our newsletter focuses on the recent and ongoing Mistra-SWECIA efforts on forests and forestry, not least within a specific forestry case study. Together, the articles illustrate the character of the efforts within Mistra-SWECIA. In this case, efforts encompass (i) interaction with users, (ii) scientific collaboration with other research programmes, (iii) advanced studies of the climate system, feedbacks and change, and last but not least (iv) new approaches in climate impact studies. Forestry in a changing climate is truly a complex topic. The concerned users and stakeholders are many and varied. Their vested interests include production, environmental quality, as well as dealing with risks and opportunities. The issues that request the users and stakeholders attention are many even without also considering climate change. However, a climate that changes does raise new aspects on especially adaptation, both to deal with changing risks and new opportunities. Science can offer support for dealing with these issues.
We believe that a good way forward on considering adaptation to climate change is a combination of targeted and collaborative research and user interaction. This is sort of an experiment as such.
Stay tuned for the coming results of the Mistra-SWECIA forestry case study!
