Climate Change Adaptation Research Programme ISTO (Finland)
Research programme active 2006-2010, launched as part of the implementation of the Finnish National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, aiming to produce information that will facilitate the planning of practical adaptation measures in Finland. Studies have been carried out under the supervision of various institutes by means of project funding from various ministries.
Potentials of and Limits to Adaptation in Norway PLAN (Norway)
Interdisciplinary social science-based research project (2007-2011) funded by the Research Council of Norway's NORKLIMA program. The aim of the project is to investigate how individuals and communities in Norway adapt to climate change. PLAN addresses three key research questions: “How do social processes influence the capacity to adapt to climate change?", “What are the limits to adaptation as a response to changing climate conditions?" and “What are the implications of these limits for human security?"
ENSEMBLE-based Predictions of Climate Changes and their Impacts ENSEMBLES (EU)
EU-project active 2004-2009 with the overall goal to provide policy relevant information on climate and climate change and its interactions with society. The project has strived to develop an ensemble prediction system based on global and regional Earth System models developed in Europe, quantify and reduce the uncertainty in the representation of physical, chemical, biological and human-related feedbacks in the Earth System, and maximise the exploitation of the results by linking the outputs of the ensemble prediction system to a range of applications.
Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European climate policy ADAM (EU)
EU-project active 2006-2009, with the aim to support the EU in the development of post-2012 global climate policies, the definition of European mitigation policies to reach its 2020 goals, and the emergence of new adaptation policies for Europe with special attention to the role of extreme weather events.
Climate and Energy Systems CES (Nordic Energy Research)
Project active 2007-2010, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers aiming to assess the development of the Nordic electricity system for the next 20-30 years in the context of climate change, addressing how the conditions for production of renewable energy in the Nordic area might change due to climate change. The focus is on the potential for production and the future security and uncertainties of the Nordic production systems.
